What is “Creable?”

“Creable” is Mr.Hideki Segawa’s sole proprietorship.

“Creable” means “Create” + “Able”.

Creable supports and works with you as hands-on to start and promote your new business.

Summary of background and strength

He stayed at Ricoh more than 32 years.

He had many variety experiences, such as engineer, technology planning, CVC(Corporate Venture Capital), manager of new technology and new business strategy, and BOP project leader(BOP:Base of the Pyramid, poverty area in the world).

He proposed and launched many new business.

He educated/motivated young people.

 

Thanks to above wide experience (and maybe with his flexible personality), here are his strengths;

  • To promote new business with deep understanding both Japanese culture (specially Japanese big companies’ culture and mind) and Silicon Valley culture.

  • To create idea on wide range topics with illustration skill

  • Excellent communication for discussion/dialogue ; to expand topics/opportunities  passionately and to organize them logically

  • How to challenge BOP region with experience of BOP project (leader) (rural area in India)

(1982-1992): Researcher and Engineer (@Tokyo and Kanagawa in Japan)

- Process making nozzle for Ink Jet

- Photolithography of optical disk

- Japanese delegation of international standard (ISO/IEC) for optical disk MO 90mm

- Built clean room and design/setup equipment for optical disk project

 

(1992-1996): Technology Planning (@Yokohama in Japan)

- promote research project as planning, optical, semiconductor, material, and so on.

- acted as core member to propose future businesses and technologies with selected young member

 

(1997-2002): CVC/ launch new business (@ Silicon Valley in US)

- As one of member of investment team in Silicon Valley to find venture and invest to them.  Main purpose was “Strategic return” instead of financial return.  However totally we got excellent success as financial too.

- Proposed new product “eCabinet”(see below). Firstly, we planned just to propose this idea to Ricoh Japan, but by many reason and discussion , we finally created new team and launched this business at Cupertino in Silicon Valley. We started sell this from May 2000, but we withdraw from this business tree years later because we couldn’t reach our sales target.

(2002-2007): Leader of Technology Planning center for new business (@ Shinyokohama in Japan)

- Open innovation. Communicated and worked with many worldwide venture and university to create new business.

- Educated and motivated young people to become to have wide perspectives.

- Created many technologies seeds and long term business strategy.

 

(2007-2009): Leader of Technology Strategy center for Imaging business (@ Ebina in Japan)

- Managed “Technology Strategy meeting” for Ricoh’s main business (Imaging business, such as copier and printer) as moderator and promoter. Total engineer who join this was more than 900 people.

- Enhanced “Environmental technology” and “new type of office idea” specially.

 

(2009-2012): Deputy General Manager of New Business Development Center(@ Tokyo in Japan)

New Business Development Center was created as corporate level under president to expand new business seriously.

Promoted and managed this group as substantive leader.

Designed total process including funding and recruiting member as original stage gate method.

Incubated many project and promoted them. Several projects reached the level to start businesses.  One of them became the division.

In parallel, he created internal new business school to educate young people by not only virtual discussion but trying to launch actual business.

Not only technology research, but also business research.

By setting long term aspiration, and created business case

and prepared technologies using open innovation method.
